This Privacy Policy describes how Qurly (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services. By using Qurly, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are
Qurly is an AI-powered trivia and quiz app operated by Aiwei Li (individual developer). For privacy questions or requests, contact us at aiweili@ymail.com.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:
- Account information: Email address and authentication credentials when you sign up with email and password. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive information from that provider (such as email and a provider user identifier) as permitted by your choices on that provider.
- Profile information: Optional username, profile photo (if you upload one), language preference (English or Chinese), and related profile settings stored in our database.
- Quiz and content you provide: Topics you enter, quiz settings (e.g. question count, timer), questions and answers generated for you, items you save to your personal library, themes you create, and optional notes when editing questions.
- Sandbox uploads: Files, images, or pasted text you submit for AI question generation. Images may be processed on our servers using optical character recognition (OCR) to extract text before quiz generation.
- Multiplayer activity: Room codes, display names or usernames shown in a room, readiness status, scores, and related gameplay state needed to run real-time multiplayer sessions.
- Purchases and credits: When you buy subscriptions or credit packs through Apple In-App Purchase, we receive transaction identifiers and product information to verify purchases with Apple and update your in-app credit balance. We do not receive your full payment card number.
- Device and app settings: Session tokens stored securely on your device, app language choice, and (on first launch) your App Store or Play Store country code or device region to choose a default UI language. You can change language anytime in Account settings.
- Photos (optional): If you grant permission, we access photos you select from your library to set a profile avatar or to upload content in Sandbox mode. We do not access your camera (camera permission is disabled in the app).
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and manage your account and keep you signed in
- Generate, precheck, store, and display quiz questions and explanations
- Run multiplayer rooms, leaderboards, and shared library features you use
- Process in-app purchases, grant credits, and prevent duplicate redemption of the same purchase
- Enforce content safety rules on topics and uploaded material
- Improve reliability (for example, resuming AI jobs if the app was backgrounded)
- Respond to support requests and comply with legal obligations
4. AI and third-party services
Qurly does not call AI providers directly from the app. Your topics and uploaded content are sent to our backend (Supabase Edge Functions), which may forward them to:
- DeepSeek — text-based question generation and topic precheck
- OpenAI — image/text extraction (OCR) for certain sandbox uploads
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage (e.g. avatars), and serverless functions
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase, and purchase verification via the App Store Server API
- Google — Sign in with Google (if you choose that option)
These providers process data according to their own policies and our instructions needed to operate the service. AI API keys are stored on our servers only, not in the mobile app.
5. What we share
- With other users: If you use multiplayer, your username and scores may be visible to others in the same room. If you set a library theme to “public” and share a share ID, others who have that ID can import a copy of that theme.
- With service providers: As listed above, to host and operate the app.
- For legal reasons: If required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Data retention
We retain account and profile data while your account is active. Quiz sets, library content, multiplayer records, and purchase redemption records are kept as needed to provide the service and maintain accurate credits. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at aiweili@ymail.com.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session storage on device (Expo Secure Store), and access controls on our database (row-level security). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Your choices
- Update username, avatar, or language in the Account tab
- Sign out at any time
- Revoke photo library access in iOS Settings
- Manage subscriptions through Apple’s subscription settings
- Contact us to access, correct, or delete personal data where applicable law provides those rights
9. Children
Qurly is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10. International users
Our services are hosted in the United States (Supabase). If you use Qurly from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. or other countries where our providers operate.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
